A special meeting of the Board of Trustees of LFISD was held on November 17, 2016 to swear in three newly elected trustees. After canvassing the election results from the November 8, 2016 Trustee election, administering the Statement of Elected Officers, and securing signatures from the newly elected members Michelle Gomez Vela, place 1, Ruben Zambrano, place 2, and Michael Martinez, place 3 took the Oath of Office and were sworn in. Outgoing Board President Alan Moore gave some emotional good-bye remarks thanking everyone for the opportunity of service.
“I also thank my wife for putting up with me while on the school board” said Moore explaining how being on the school board though rewarding can be taxing at times. Moore then stood and shook hands with Juan Briones who succeeded as Board President.
Briones then gave complimentary comments and thanked Lalo Sosa for his mentoring and looking at what was important for students. He thanked Gloria Casas for standing for a unified board and he thanked Moore for always viewing issues from the student’s, parent’s and community’s point of view. Juan Briones was then voted in as School Board President, Katie Johnson was voted in as Vice President and Michelle Vela was voted in as Secretary.
