La Feria Girls Tennis on Fire
- Updated: March 10, 2017
During the early part of the tennis season, Senior Ashley Avalos and Junior Violeta Gamboa played some good tennis in mix doubles and in singles. However, they kept bugging Coach Hernandez to let them play doubles together. After proving that they were ready, Coach Hernandez decided to give it a try, and the girls have not disappointed.
The girls started by winning the McAllen tournament beating every team convincingly, beating a Donna team in the finals, 6-0, 6-3 to win the title. Next, the girls took their hot game to Laredo’s Border Olympics.
There, the girls breezed into the finals where they played the number one seeds from Roma. The girls played hard and gave Roma a scare before falling a little short, 4-6, 3-6. The girls placed 2nd, but looked very impressive against a 5A team
Next, the girls will compete in the Kingsville tournament where they will be trying to best last year’s second place finish. The girls are well aware that they must continue to improve in order to make a state playoff run.
