The city of La Feria held a short meeting on Tuesday, June 27, in the city commission meeting room. Following the usual protocol of a city meeting and the approval of the minutes of the previous meeting (June 13), the commission approved a motion regarding a fireworks display as part of the city’s Independence Day celebration.
Before the meeting was adjourned, the commission received a status update on the financial audit conducted for the fiscal year that ended in September 2016.
“We are getting pretty close to finalizing the audit. I wanted this item to be very well scrutinized, to make sure that we covered everything and we knew our budgets,” said city manager, Jaime Sandoval.
In order to attain a true snapshot of the city’s financial situation, Sandoval has ensured that all information has been made available to the accounting firm of Carr, Riggs and Ingram (CRI).
Quentin Anderson, a representative of CRI, informed the commission that CRI has nearly completed the audit and hopes to be able to present their findings at the next regular city meeting.
“We have been working hard with your personnel to try to get through all the financial information and try to be certain that there are no unanswered questions. We are drafting a financial statement- it will include financial information, some findings and recommendations. The goal is to be at your next regular meeting with a financial report,” Anderson said.
