- Updated: August 4, 2017
The Aaron Vincent Juarez Memorial Basketball Game began five years ago as a way of celebrating the life of a La Feria native by raising money for a scholarship to help others that shared his dream of becoming a Physician’s Assistant.
Now in its fifth year, this year’s game is scheduled for Saturday August 12, 2017 at the . As usual there will be a full court 5 on 5 game, a co-ed game, along with a free throw and three point contest and kids activities. This year’s game is open to any player who is 15 and older.
About Aaron
The 25-year-old La Feria native was living in Corpus Christi, TX, working as a Physician’s Assistant at Kingsville Medical Center and Christus Spohn Portland Urgent Care. Each day he made the commute to the two centers, devoting his time to helping others and saving lives.
Even while growing up in La Feria, TX, Juarez helped out around the community, with his church and was recognized for his athletic abilities and academic achievements. He graduated fourth in his 2005 La Feria High School class before attending The University of Texas-Pan American. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from UTPA with his Bachelor’s degree in biology in 2009 and went on to receive his Master’s degree from UTPA as a Physician’s Assistant in 2011.
Juarez frequently made visits back home to be with family and friends, and made sure to keep in touch with them on a daily basis even on the busiest of days.
Fitness was a significant part of his life. He never missed a day of exercise and always promoted a healthy lifestyle. But when he wasn’t working or at the gym, he was on the dance floor, his heart pounding with the music and feet moving in smooth cadence.
Juarez eventually wanted to pursue a career as doctor in family practice. His dream continues with the Aaron Vincent Juarez Scholarship for UTPA students aspiring to become Physician’s Assistants.
