The La Feria city commission held a regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the La Feria city commission meeting room.
Following the usual protocol of a city meeting (invocation, pledge and determination of quorum), the minutes from the previous city meeting (July 25) were approved.
The commission went on to also approve the authorization of the La Feria Fire Station as a designated voting site. The fire station, located at 200 E. Business 83, will serve as a designated voting location for early voting and election day voting in the upcoming Constitutional Amendment Election to be held on November 7, 2017.
After accepting the certified appraisal roll submitted by the Cameron County Appraisal District, the commission discussed the appointment of five new board members to the La Feria Economic Development Council (LFEDC).
Present at the meeting were LFEDC board member Ignacio Garcia and President Betty Jo Dunlap. Garcia, who has served the LFEDC for two years, and Dunlap who helped establish the LFEDC, claimed neither had any idea about changes being made to the LFEDC board.
The commission accepted applications for LFEDC board membership from Jose R. Becerra Jr. and Francisco Loya Jr. Commissioners Eric Hoff and Donato Garcia were appointed as the additional two commission seats on the board after being nominated by Commissioner Esmeralda Lozano.
Lozano announced her resignation from the LFEDC and appointed Commissioner Julian Guevara Jr. to take her seat.
The commission then entered into executive session where there was no action, the meeting was then adjourned.
The next city meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, in the city commission meeting room located at 115 E. Commercial Avenue.
