UTRGV Named in Forbes Rankings for Second Year
- Updated: August 11, 2017
RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for the second consecutive year has been named on the Forbes Magazine 2017 “America’s Top Colleges” list, ranking No. 235 among research universities, No. 151 among schools in the South and No. 221 among public colleges.
Forbes and its partner, the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank focused on higher education costs and efficiency, on Aug. 2 released the extensive list, which includes 650 public and private schools nationwide.
Ranking first among the UT System schools was The University of Texas at Austin; UTRGV is ranked fourth among schools in the UT System.
UTRGV President Guy Bailey said the rankings speak to the dedication and hard work of students, faculty and staff as the university heads into its third year of operations.
“As UTRGV’s role in the Rio Grande Valley expands, our Forbes ranking among research universities is especially exciting. Research is a core priority for our growing university, and to be listed with established research institutions reinforces our commitment, our focus and our direction,” Bailey said.
In an explanation of this year’s listings, Forbes says it has reexamined its methodology and some of the data sources used “to better align this list with what Forbes values most: entrepreneurship, success and the consumer experience.”
Forbes based its rankings on the following weighted categories:
- Post-graduate Success: 35 percent.
- Debt: 20 percent.
- Student Experience: 20 percent.
- Graduation Rate: 12.5 percent.
- Academic Success: 12.5 percent.
UTRGV was No. 598 in the overall rankings. Review the complete list of ranked schools here: https://www.forbes.com/top-colleges/list/
