City Commission Passes Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance

The La Feria City Commission held a special meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Following the invocation, pledge of allegiance and determination of quorum, the commission went on to approve the minutes for the city meeting held on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
City manager, Jaime Sandoval was then appointed as the city’s representative to the regional task force that is part of an interlocal agreement between the city of a La Feria and the University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley.
The commission then approved a pipeline crossing agreement, license fee, and a supplemental agreement between the city and Union Pacific Railroad Company.
Next, the commission passed ordinance 2018-02, which regards flood damage prevention. In order to continue to receive funding, the city must pass an ordinance that complies with FEMA as well as state statutes regarding flood damage prevention.
Finance director, Frank Rios, then went before the commission to present the monthly finance report for the month of December. While discussing the finance report, the commission took into consideration raising the prices for meters to be turned back on after being disconnected and also increasing the price of meter tampering.
After emerging from executive session, the meeting was adjourned. The next city meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the city commission meeting room located at 115 E. Commercial Avenue in La Feria.
