The Texas Lady Spartans, La Feria’s all female football team, played their first pre-season game in Robstown on Saturday, February 17.
In what team captain, Kathryn Meyer, described as a baptism by fire, the away game had the girls facing off against the Corpus Christi Divas. While the Spartans lost this game, they are hopeful for the future.
Team captain Kathryn Meyer said in a statement to La Feria News, “We played our hearts out… We learned that we are stronger than we thought. God blessed us with an almost injury free game and knowledge to go forward and do better!”
Despite taking a loss in their first game, the girls of the newly formed team are confident, motivated and looking forward to the rest of the season as they leave it all on the field. “This game gave us the confidence that we can do this, just need to work out the kinks,” said Meyer.
