There are no Starbucks or its subsidiary Seattle’s Best Coffee shops here, but lovers of the aromatic drink have a locally-owned coffee house called Girl Of All Trades.
The business, located on the 100 block of West Oleander Avenue, just opened its doors last week and is doing well thus far.
“We are not in the business of selling gourmet coffees,” Belle Myers, who along with her husband own the store, said.
“We have well roasted coffee.”
Rodney handles the roasting with a machine he has at home but plans to expand his company called Four Dogs Roasting Co.
Girl Of All Trades has a variety of products, ranging from spices to old-fashioned soft drinks as well as coffees from more than a half a dozen countries, including Tanzania, Peru and Mexico.
The Myers said they buy the agricultural product from brokers throughout the United States and emphasized that nearly 100 percent of the beans they buy are organically grown and belong to the Fair Trade movement.
Fair Trade is an organization whose goal is to help producers in developing countries achieve a better life through sustainable farming.
“We also try to be as Texan as we can be,” Rodney said.
“We have some things produced in the Austin area.”
An example of that is a spice called “Special S—,“ that can be added to sauces and for BBQ cookouts.
However, Belle said their specialty is cold brewed coffee and tea.
