Sweet Delights in La Feria

Home brewed coffee is not the only locally produced item available in La Feria.
Add cheesecake to the list.
Sweet Blessings, owned by Jaime Martinez, has been providing the delicacy for the last three years to area consumers and is now offering sandwiches for lunch.
Martinez said he began making cheesecakes at first from his home and opened the shop in November after running a similar business a stone’s throw away from the current location on West Oleander Street.
”I started selling my cheesecakes on Facebook,” he said. “And, as time went by, people started liking it more and more and placing more orders.
Martinez said he thought about taking his nearly half a dozen products to Market Days in Harlingen but ran into a snag because of city health regulations.
For his cheesecakes he uses a variety of nuts, kiwi, strawberries and a Mexican sweet called cajeta.
“My number one seller is cheesecake with pecans and cajeta,” he said. “I also make pineapple upside down and New York-styled cheese cakes.”
Martinez said he decided to add chicken sandwiches for lunch – something which has been so far so good.
As to his business, he said it couldn’t have happened without the support from his family, friends and the community.
“I also have faith in God,” Martinez said.
