Residents from Combes and its surrounding areas are soon to be able to get warm meals from a program designed to help people who are over 60 years of age.
Amigos Del Valle has launched its Meals on Wheels service so “no senior goes hungry.”
City, business and representatives of several state agencies met last month recently at the Combes Recreation Center to unveil the latest recipients of the program.
As of Wednesday, May 2, about 20 residents had signed up for the meals that will be served at the center sometime this month.
Alex Guerra, executive director with Amigos Del Valle, said they are glad to have the opportunity to bring their services to Combes.
“We are expanding our program to Combes,” he said. “We will be serving warm meals at lunchtime Monday through Friday.”
He said they serve all the four Rio Grande Valley counties and that funding for their program comes from the Area Agency on Aging and from donations.
Combes Mayor Marco Sanchez welcomed everybody on behalf of the city.
“This a wonderful thing for the people from here and its surrounding areas,” he said. “There is a great need for a program like this one here.”
