Lion Band Eyeing Third Consecutive State Trip

LA FERIA – “The first band advancing to the state marching contest, La Feria High School.”
2014 was a year the Mighty Lion Band would never forget: going to state for the first time in school history.
Since then, the band has reached the state contest one other time and looks to make a third trip this fall.
The musicians met at the La Feria Band Hall this past week for rehearsal. The band starts learning drill and positioning on the field August 1st.
Eddie Benitez, Director of Bands, is super excited for this marching season, especially since their production is a “part two” to their 2016 show entitled “Into the Darkness.”
“We’re excited about our chances and the promise these kids hold,” said Benitez, “We didn’t graduate a single low-brass member from last year’s marching band, and that’s like the offensive line. So, they’re going to be stronger.”
Last marching season marked the fourth consecutive year the Mighty Lion Band received a Division 1 (Superior Rating) at the UIL Pigskin Competition. They look to make it a fifth straight year as well as advance to the state competition for the third consecutive state-year, which is held every two years.
“We just got to make sure and stay focus,” Benitez added, “The sky’s the limit for these kids.”
