SAN ANTONIO – As football season quickly approaches, not only do the football players begin to prep for Friday night, but so do the cheerleaders.
The La Feria High School Varsity Cheerleaders attended a camp at the University of Texas- San Antonio hosted by the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA). The squad spent three days learning new stunts, participating in team-bonding activities, and competing in team performances.
With their participation came many awards, such as blue ribbons in their motions and band chant cheer routines.
NCA All-American Nominees were LanaVee Borjas, Natalie Gonzalez, Anaelisa Olivarez, Briana Reyes, Alana Rodriguez, Aaliyah Stewart, Bethany Taguilas, and Felicity Watson. Of the eight girls, Briana Reyes was selected to the NCA All-American Team.
First year coaches Jessica Farias and Melissa Hernandez were also awarded the title of “Outstanding Rookies.”
With the conclusion of the camp, the cheerleaders will hold practices during the following weeks in preparation for the football season and other sporting events to follow.
