City Council Holds Workshops on Proposed $3.8 Million Budget for New Fiscal Year
- Updated: September 14, 2018

As the deadline to approve a new fiscal year approaches for most municipalities, officials with the City of La Feria continue having workshops concerning the 2018-19 budget.
The fiscal year starts Oct. 1 and ends Sept. 30.
A leaner $3.8 million budget is being proposed for FY 2018-19.
It contains a one-time 3 or 4 percent salary increase to all city employees, except for the police department and the city manager.
The proposed budget has $521,000 less than it was estimated earlier in the year.
The city council has approved the 2018-19 effective tax rate which calls for no increase in property taxes.
The council approved a rate of 0.7600 per $100 of valuation, which is the current rate set last year.
During an early meeting, Frank Rios, the finance director, said the city has a $1.8 million debt that will have to be paid.
The city council has been holding several budget workshops before adopting the new budget that will go into effect on Oct. 1.
