Citrus Village Park Holds Christmas Bazaar

After talking about doing something for themselves and for the community, two Winter Texan women decided to hold a flea market type of activity in a recreational vehicle park they make home for a good part of a year.

They called it Christmas Bazaar and it was held at Citrus Village Park in La Feria.

Thousands of items, they either made or added some personal touches, were on display in the RV park recreational hall during the three-day event held Oct. 19-21.

During the bazaar, raffle tickets were sold for several prizes and the proceeds from that went to a children’s Christmas toy fund the City of La Feria and its police department hosts in December.

Linda Haston said she and Debora Davidheiser got the idea of having the bazaar.

“We rented the recreational hall to have the market,” she said. “We spent all summer long making most of these items.”

Haston said her husband makes a lot of decorative things using old barn lumber he brings from Missouri.

The bazaar had the participation of two local organizations.

One was the American Legion, which was selling hamburgers. The other was the La Feria Volunteer Fire Department that was in charge of cooking and selling sausages and other goodies.

Haston said the bazaar was the first one they had and might consider having it again.

Janell Evans, a resident of Sun Valley Acres, made a trip to the bazaar and bought a few items for Christmas.

“This is pretty neat,” she said, holding a handful of merchandise. “This is what I bought.”
