La Feria City Council has a new commissioner who said he wants to work toward the betterment of the community and the constituents who voted for him.
Devin Rey Martinez, 26, took the oath of office following the votes canvassing during Tuesday’s Nov. 20 special meeting of the city council.
“I want to thank all of our La Feria residents who went out to vote and supported me these midterm elections,” he said. “It was because of everyone’s initiative to come out, that I am able to serve as your city commissioner.”
He said he is glad for this new endeavor in his life, which will enable him to work with experienced members of the city council.
“I will work with a team where we can serve our community,” Martinez he said, “in ways that can benefit us as a whole and move us in a positive direction.”
Martinez ran again Alma Martinez Botello for the unexpired term left by former Place 2 commissioner Eric Hoff who resigned earlier this year.
Hoff was elected in 2016 so the three-year term will be up for grabs in 2020.
In other election-related matters: Lisa Ayala Montalvo, Gloria Casas, Katie Johnson and Juan “Johnny” Briones also took the oath of office earlier this month with La Feria school district board of trustees.
