CALALLEN – For the La Feria Mighty Lion Marching Band, it was their third consecutive area appearance as well as fifth straight year with a superior rating at the regional marching contest.
The band also had high hopes of reaching a third consecutive state bid. For many seniors, however, it was a heartbreaking moment.
The Lion Band was able to clinch an area finals performance but only finished eighth out of the ten finalists (with top five going to state).
Schools that advanced to the state marching contest include Hidalgo, Fulshear, Grulla, Port Isabel, and Rio Hondo.
Although the journey was halted, the Lion Band had another successful marching season, including a great outcome at the Robstown Crossroads Contest receiving awards for best drumline and top 4A band.
The Mighty Lion Band continues to hold its standard of great success as they continue the school year going into their yearly Christmas concert, city Christmas parade appearance, as well as supporting the La Feria Lions football team.
