La Feria Gears Up for Next Election
- Updated: December 28, 2018

It seems like there is an election for a political office taking place all the time these days.
La Feria voters sent newcomer Devin Martinez to take the Place 2 seat on the city council in the November special election.
And since he was elected to complete the remaining six months of Eric Hoff’s three-year term as he resigned two and half years after he was elected, Martinez’s seat will be up for grabs in the May 4, 2019 general election.
The school teacher from the Los Fresnos school district has just attended his second city council meeting and will probably sit in about a half dozen more meetings before his seat will again be decided by the voters.
The Place 2 and Place 1 seats held by Councilman Jessie Zuniga as well as Mayor Olga Maldonado will be up for election next May.
So an agenda item in Tuesday’s Dec. 19 special meeting called for selecting a polling place for the May election.
The city council then approved City Hall as the place to cast all ballots during early voting and on Election Day.
The action was prompted after City Manager Jaime Sandoval said they were informed by the county’s election administrator’s to start planning for the next election that will be held less than five months from now.
