Political Hopefuls Prepare to File for Run in May Election
- Updated: January 18, 2019

The next Election Day is months away from today, but those hoping to seek re-election or to become elected officials should start thinking about that now.
May 4 is Election Day, or less than four months from this week.
Filing for office is not waiting until then, however.
In fact, the filing period starts this Jan. 16 and ends at 6 p.m. Feb. 15.
Three seats in La Feria City Council will be up for grabs in May.
They are the seats held by Mayor Olga Maldonado and council men Jesse Zuniga and Devin Martinez.
The three have said they intend to seek re-election.
Martinez was elected last year to fill the unexpired Place 2 seat left vacant by Eric Hoff.
The newly elected council man faced Alma Martinez-Botello and she plans to file to run for Devin Martinez’s seat in May.
So if anyone else is considering running for one of those three seats, now is the time to decide.
