A bumpy section of Stuart Place Road in Primera is getting a major improvement thanks to a partnership between Cameron County and the small town leadership.
The section of the road, past City Hall to Rio Rancho Road, is now closed to through traffic to allow a construction crew to work there.
The road section will be completely replaced with a new one and driving through it should be smooth. When going south, a barrier alerts drivers about the project.
Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino said the Stuart Place Road project is being done through a partnership between the two entities.
“The county is providing the labor and equipment,” he said, “and the City of Primera is in charge of the materials.”
David Kusch, the city mayor who is serving his second two-year term, said the road improvement project should be completed by June of this year.
He estimated the cost of the project at about $750,000.
Kusch said the road will make riding a lot smoother along Stuart Place Road, or from Expressway 83 to FM 106.
The farm-to-marker road links Santa Rosa to Combes.
“We think this road was built in the 1940s,” he said about the bumpy section from city hall to FM 106. “It has not been touched since then.”
But that is about to change.
“I am very excited about this project,” he said, “so are the residents who live along the road.”
