Special to La Feria News
On Saturday, December 15, 2018, hosted by El Centro Foods Store, La Feria Lions Club, Los Leones Restaurant, RGV Antique Automobile Club, C/10 Automobile Club, and La Feria Area Chamber of Commerce, the community event kicked off the holiday season by distributing toys, providing free food, two car shows, and great music and pictures with Santa Claus and the Grinch which added a great touch to the event to families living in La Feria, TX and neighboring cities.
The event was a great success in that it brought community spirit alive, with children and families enjoying a fun filled and a memorable day. Over 250 families line up early morning waiting for the event to start at 9am at El Centro Food Store located 500 N. Main St. #A, La Feria, TX. Every year lots of kids wake up early and have chance to celebrate Christmas a few days early.
Over 1500 toys were given out to our community children. Santa’s gifts were generously distributed to each child by Santa’s helpers: El Centro Foods, the La Feria Lions Club, RGV AACOA (Car Club), C/10 Club, Los Leones Restaurant, La Feria Area Chamber of Commerce and La Feria ISD volunteers.
With the support of our community partners and organizations alike, over 1500 unwrapped toys were donated to all children age groups. The Fire Department added safety and some excitement by attending in support of the event.
“This is a great opportunity for us to bring a little bit of hope and joy to their lives, even if it’s just for a little while.
New and unwrapped toys go to our local community children in need. Where parents who can’t afford to buy a toy for their children will be able to come to this event and their children receive a gift. Children get to walk through and pick out their own toy and then take a picture with Santa. It is so fun to watch kids walk through and pick out about 15 toys before they decide on the exact one they want, it is all about smiling and making the kids happy and we didn’t run out of toys!” said Alma Martinez –Botello.
Christmas is the time and spirit of charity and generosity. It is about giving back to family, friends, neighbors, and strangers in need.
