Food conscious people now have a place to satisfy their appetites without worrying about too many calories or putting extra inches on their waist.
Just Fresh, an eatery that offers sugar free but tasty shakes, salads and even chicken has opened its doors here.
The business is adhering to the keto diet, a low carb, high-fat diet that share similarities to the Atkins diet.
Menu items include berries, cucumber, apples, celery, ginger, lemons, kale, beets and freshly squeezed juices.
Coconut and almond milks are other ingredients used in the making of its shakes.
Just Fresh is a family-owned and -run shop that Janie Leija Perez and her husband Arturo opened about a month ago.
She said she learned to cook from her mom and on her own.
Leija Perez said she sold chicken plates throughout town for several years mostly by word of mouth and by using the internet.
She said she wanted to open a place big enough to serve a lot of people and used her savings from selling food plates to open Just Fresh.
“In fact,” she said, “we feature the same kind of chicken I used to sell during Friday’s salad bar.”
Leija Perez also gets help from their three daughters and from two of her sisters.
She said Just Fresh has garnered a good clientele since it opened last month.
“It has been consistent,” she said. “We did not think it was going to be this busy.”
Joey Diaz, who stopped by on a day last week, said he has had four of their drinks already.
“So far so good,” he said while leaving with a friend with an order of four shakes. “My wife told me about it.”
Just Fresh is located at 900 S. Main St.
