High School Students Receive Training for VITA Program
- Updated: February 5, 2019
by Victor Moreno/LFN
La Feria High School students received training for the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program which is held annually at La Feria High School.
Training for the VITA program is provided through Southern Cameron County United Way and the Internal Revenue Service. This year Mr. Cecilio Cavazos and his students trained for the upcoming 2019 tax season on January 19, 2019.
The program helps individuals and families with household incomes of $54,000 or less so whether residents need professionally trained tax preparers to help file a federal income tax return or are looking to do the work themselves, the VITA program is a free option for low to moderate income wage earners here in Cameron County. This year it is to be held at La Feria High School, a VITA site, at 901 N Canal Street. The program will be open on Mondays only from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. starting January 28, 2019 through February 25th and walk-ins will be welcomed. For more information about the VITA program go to http://www.laferiaisd.org or https://www.unitedwayrgv.org/volunteer-income-tax-assistance.
