Nearly every city in the Rio Grande has something to celebrate.
Brownsville has its Charro Days later this month. Weslaco’s Onion Festival is in March and so is Hidalgo’s Border Fest. Los Fresnos has its annual rodeo while McAllen has one of the states biggest holiday parades and Port Isabel’s Shrimp Cookoff is also a big event there.
This centrally located city in the Rio Grande Valley has its Fiesta de La Feria, which is an annual event time to bring the community together.
The Fiesta de la Feria will take place from 11 a.m., to 11 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 16.
The festivity will have a little bit of everything for everybody.
Among the activities include carnival rides for children, a beer garden for adults, games, a food court, auto show and several live musical presentations from a number of bands and singers.
Mayor Olga Maldonado said the Fiesta de la Feria is the city’s biggest event of the year.
“It started many years ago,“ she said, “with the idea to bring people together.”
Maldonado said just about every city in the Valley has its own community wide event.
“Why not La Feria?” she said. “People enjoy getting together, listening to music and celebrating life.”
The city mayor said some of the area children do not have the opportunity to enjoy a carnival but they will be able to do so this Saturday for free.
“So come on over,” Maldonado said, “and enjoy the festivities.”
