Winter Texan Day at El Centro Foods This Saturday
- Updated: March 15, 2019
by Tony Vindell/LFN
Hundreds of visitors from throughout the United States and Canada make their homes in La Feria mostly during the late fall and winter months and who can blame them?
Storms after storms, frigid weather and even tornadoes have been making the news in many parts of the country, except down here.
These visitors, which are affectionately known as Winter Texans, spend a good amount of money while they are here and many businesses and organizations appreciate that.
El Centro Foods is among them.
The grocery store, along with cosponsors La Feria Chamber of Commerce and Los Leones Restaurant, is once again holding a Winter Texan Appreciation event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, March 16, as an appreciation for the yearly winter visitors and the business they bring to our area.
Ruben Figueroa, the store manager, said they will have free food including hot dogs a well as 15 raffles, music and a car show.
La Feria has a population of a little more than 7,300, but the city grows exponentially every year during the Winter Texan season.
The Mobile and RV parks found here include VIP, Yellow Rose, Mesquite, Breezewood and Kenwood.
The La Feria Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of the business community. It unites business professional individuals and firms creating a central agency which lends itself to improving business and building a better community. Although members are predominantly part of the business community, there is a place in the Chamber for all who share the desire to improve the community and get involved.
El Centro Foods is a community-based store that has been here since the 1980’s, employing nearly 40 people.
