Dove Hunting Season Moves to Labor Day
- Updated: April 12, 2019
by Tony Vindell/LFN
Dove hunters are going to get busy this upcoming Labor Day, which falls on Monday Sept. 2.
Instead of hanging out by the BBQ grill as many people do on that day, many of them will be aiming their shotguns toward the skies in hopes of bringing down a white-winged dove.
That is because the second day of the first special weekend to shoot the fast flying doves falls this year on Monday, Sept. 2.
The second weekend will take place Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday 8.
During the 2018-19 season, dove hunters went to the fields on Saturday and Sunday.
As is normal procedure, this year’s dates were set up by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Commission and it sets aside the first two weekends in September.
The last time dove hunters hunted on a Labor Day Monday was during the 2014-15 season, or five years ago.
