Girls State
- Updated: May 2, 2019
Area high school juniors and their parents were invited to Girls State Tea on Sunday, organized by the American Auxiliary Unit 205 of Harlingen. The event was a celebration of some of the students chosen to represent the Valley this June at the 2019 Girls State program at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, where a group of 500 delegates from across the state will learn civic responsibilities by creating and running their own government at the state, county, and city level. Outgoing president for American Legion Auxiliary Unit 205 Linda Garcia said it cost about $550 to sponsor a student. Part of the organization’s fundraisers help sponsor children of veterans.
