The job and business outlook continues to improve in La Feria.
An old building on Solis Road has been renovated at the tune of $6.6 million that now operates as service center that provides jobs for close to 40 people.
It’s the Old Dominion Freight Service Center equipped today with 14 new truck doors and new offices.
Founded in 1934, Old Dominion Freight Line started out as a single truck running a 94-mile route in Virginia to becoming today a national freight leader and global transportation company.
The 34-door center covers 5.4 acres and provides services in South Texas and Mexico.
A company representative for Old Dominion said the company has 233 service centers around the country.
It has 20 such facilities in Texas, while three others are in the states of Arkansas, Kansas and Louisiana.
Old Dominion handles an array of merchandise, including canned and dry goods and car batteries.
The company has been in Brownsville for about 20 years and expanded its operation by opening a second center in La Feria.
“The company is really glad to be in La Feria,” added the representative.
“They want people to know what they have done to the building.”
The company will host an open house starting at 11 a.m. this Thursday, June 20.
The center is at 27775 Solis Road just west of La Feria.
