La Feria BBQ Team Earns Top Spot at Cowboy Cook-off

A team of BBQ cooks from La Feria are grilling some of the best meats in the Rio Grande Valley, earning top spots during competitions.
And it’s a team which has made it to the elite list in just a couple of years.
They’re called BBQ-Holics.
Just this and last month the team, made up of Hector Cantu and Vicente Ochoa, took the grand prize at the third annual Los
Fresnos Cowboy Cook-Off and the reserved grand champion in Mission the month before.
“It feels good,” Cantu said after receiving the prize in Los Fresnos. “We compete about twice a month.”
He said he and Ochoa have been cooking together for the last two years.
They took first place with brisket at the cowboy cook-off as well as several other spots.
The competition was tough as some of the cooking teams have been grilling for many years, competing in just about every cook-off in the Valley.
