According to the organizations website the “National Red Ribbon Campaign”, a trademark of The National Family Partnership (NFP) organization, provides drug awareness and serves as a catalyst to mobilize communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention activities.
NFP had its beginnings in 1985, and in 1988, NFP sponsored the first National Red Ribbon Celebration in honor of DEA agent Enrique Camarena’s memory. During the week of October 23 through October 31, 2019 La Feria Independent School District campuses celebrated this years Red Ribbon campaign which was themed: “Send a Message. Stay Drug Free”.
Campuses throughout the District participated in various activities, dances, performances, presentations, and themed days such as “Wake up and be Drug & Bully free” by wearing their favorite pajamas to school or “Hats off to being Drug free” by wearing their favorite hats just to name a couple of the many creative ways that Teachers and students celebrated Red Ribbon Week.
