A member of the La Feria high school football team was selected to play in the Blue Grey All American Bowl, which was held on Monday, Dec. 16.
Alex Yerena, a left tackle with the bi-district champion Lions was selected to play after he was picked up during a try out.
The 17 year old senior played with the West Team, facing the East Team at AT&T Stadium, in Arlington.
“It’s an honor to be selected to play in the bowl,” he said, before going north. “I feel glad for having this opportunity.”
Yerena was division lineman of the year, a 2018 all-star offensive tackle named by an area newspaper.
He was a member of the Lions team that went undefeated in the 4A-1 division and the only team in the Rio Grande Valley to do so.
The Lions ended the season with only one loss to the Liberty Hill Panthers.
Yerena and two other Lions players, Darious Hernandez and Victor Luna, were selected early this year ago to play in the Blue Grey All American Super Combine also in Arlington.
