Santa Rosa ISD ensuring its students are college ready

SANTA ROSA – Getting ready to transition from high school to college is a daunting challenge, but Santa Rosa ISD is doing its best to make sure its students are as prepared as possible.
On Feb. 1 and again on Feb. 8, Santa Rosa High School held an ACT Academy for all 11th graders. The workshop, which is done in partnership with UTRGV, is aimed at getting students ready to take the ACT college entrance exam. Another workshop was scheduled for Feb. 15 at the Santa Rosa High School library.
Marcy Cuevas, dean of instruction at Santa Rosa High School, said a good number of students take advantage of the workshops.
“We had about 32 students show up for our last two workshops but considering that is out of about 88 to 90 students, that’s really good,” she said.
In addition to the ACT Academy, Santa Rosa High School also provides seniors with college readiness instruction.
“We have a college readiness go-center where we help students fill out college applications or answer questions about financial aid applications and deadlines. Whatever we can do to help,” said James Jauregui, Santa Rosa High School principal.
