The La Feria Lionettes are in a very familiar place this time of year: Getting ready for the UIL soccer playoffs.
For the ninth year in a row, the Lionettes have qualified for the postseason as they beat Lyford 2-1 on March 10 to wrap up District 32-4A play with a 10-4 record. They are expected to enter the upcoming UIL playoffs, which begin on March 26, as the No. 2 seed and will face whoever finishes as the No. 3 seed out of District 31-4A.
The Lionettes have been on a roll lately, winning their last three in a row and 7 of 8. Their last loss came against Rio Hondo on Feb. 28.
Last season, the Lionettes beat Pharr Vanguard Academy 4-3 in a shootout in the opening round of the playoffs before bowing out in the second round against Beeville Jones, 3-0.
This year’s squad is hoping to one-up the 2017-18 team that advanced all the way to the third round of the postseason before falling to Corpus Christi London 2-1 – one win short of the regional tournament.
