Homeschooling the new norm at La Feria ISD

LA FERIA – Homeschooling will be the new normal for now as public schools are mandated to close during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This situation leaves parents responsible to help homeschool their children. The first day of homeschooling class for La Feria ISD started on Monday, March 30. Students took to their computers and packets that were distributed the week prior to start day.
According to the La Feria ISD website, high school students were transitioned to 100 percent online distance learning and will be using Edgenuity, Google Classroom and Canvas for all credit classes. In addition, they will be using Remind and /or Band App.
To keep constant communication with all students and parents, teachers will also be using Zoom sessions for one-on-one tutoring. Any students who did not have internet access were instructed to collect their instructional material.
W.B. Green Junior High students are using Continuity Instructional Packets for 7th-8th grade math, reading, writing, science and social studies. The online Edgenuity program will be used for algebra I while Spanish classes will use Google Classroom. These two classes are a high school credit course.
All 8th grade Gear-up students have access to Qannection.com. Elementary Schools picked up packets for math, reading, social studies and science, as well as web-based activities. Teachers will be communicating with their students via ClassDoJo, Remind, Google Classroom and via email.
The district has also given the kids the opportunity to keep earning AR (Accelerated Reader) points.
The grab-and-go meals will still be available every Monday and Wednesday for all students. This time pickups will be at the high school and Dominguez Elementary only, and parents need to get off and pick up meals from the table. If the student is not in the car, parents must also provide a student ID card, report card or birth certificate in order to pick up meals.
