Special to LFN
Rancho Palos Verdes, CA – To start of the year, the Mariners hit the road to compete in the Vanguard Invitational at Bella Collina Towne Golf Club in San Clamente, CA. For the women though, it was Isabel Prado representing MCU on the course, but the Senior was ready to start off her senior season with a bang.
Prado spent plenty of time practicing during this elongated off-season and it shows in her 1st competition of the season for MCU. Prado came roaring out of the gates to shoot a 73 on her first round, which gave her a 2 stroke lead over competitors from Hope International and Vanguard. But Prado was just getting into the grove as she came back for round 2 of the day. Prado continued to push forward and push her competition as she shot a 69 on her second round. This again was 2 strokes better than all other competitors and put Prado up 4 strokes after day 1 with a combined score of 142. through the day Prado led all competitions in par 4 scoring, par 5 scoring, birdies, and eagles. Prado was even through par 4 scoring, -6 in par 5 scoring, had 1 eagle and 10 birdies.
On day 2, Prado picked up right where she left off on Monday as she picked the course apart. Everything was going right for Prado as she finished with another 69 on her final round, which was 6 strokes better than the next finisher on the round. She finished with a combined score of 211 on the tournament that gave her the victory at the Vanguard Invitational by 10 strokes.
Congratulations to Prado for her 1st victory of the season and we look forward to seeing more of the Mariners in the fall. Stay tuned for all things MCU Women’s Golf
