The District 16-4A Division I football season is done after 4 games for each team. Just another casualty to the Covid-19 Pandemic. For the La Feria Lions, this meant a total of 4 regular season games. The Lions managed to fight through for a 3-1 record.
Zapata and Hidalgo also finished with district records of 3-1. After all the tie-breakers Hidalgo was awarded the top seed in the playoffs for this District. La Feria was awarded the 2nd place seed. Zapata received the 3rd seed. RGC Grulla got the last playoff spot for this 5 school District.
The Lions football team opens the playoffs with a huge test: Corpus Christi Miller. Miller has a stout team with a winning tradition just like La Feria. Miller was 3-2 in District 15 and 6-4 overall. So while the Lions only got to play 4 games in the 2020 season, Miller played a full 10 games.
In the last game of the regular season CC Miller beat Beeville Jonesby a score of 86-76. So Miller obviously has a high powered offense. But their defense will let La Feria score point too.
If La Feria moves past Miller the next opponent will be either Lampasass or Uvalde.
