Soon Sam Houston Elementary School in La Feria will complete its new playground. The playground was first approved by the school board back in August. They approved a purchase order to American Parks Company in the amount of $113,677. The equipment is to be paid by ESSER funds. ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund) are funds that were appropriated for Texas schools as part of the American Rescue Plan. Congress passed three stimulus bills since 2020 to help schools with federal funding, which were ESSER, ESSER II, and ESSER III. The latter of funds was passed in March of 2021, under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Funds are designed to be used by Elementary and Secondary public and Charter schools for resources purchased between March 13, 2020, and September 20, 2023. La Feria ISD will also be using stimulus funds over the next few years to support campus needs across the district to help students transition back to in-person learning.
