Lions Basketball Is Off And Running

The La Feria Lions have officially kicked off the 2021 Basketball season and have a tough schedule as they continue action at the Hidalgo Pirate Classic.
The Lions took on the Mercedes Tigers in the season opener in a very back and forth battle. Early from the get-go the Lions and the Tigers battled it out in a classic chess match of a basketball game. At the end of the first quarter, the Lions were trailing 7 to 6 in what was a slow-paced game on offense.
Heading into the second quarter, the Lions regained control and the offense kicked back up for both teams continued to aggressively attack both sides of the ball, with the game being tied at the half 22 to 22.
As the game progressed in the second half. The Tigers took an early lead but La Feria, who was playing consistently from the get-go, turned it around to make it 45-44 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter had more dominant play-making on both sides of the ball by the Tigers as they maintained control to outscore La Feria by 8 points to take the win 69 to 62.
The First of many non-district opponents, La Feria had an early test against a great team in the Mercedes Tigers. Some teams in Non-District include, Rio Grande City, La Joya Palmview, and Edcouch-Elsa Looking ahead to the district calendar, The Lions will open up the 2021-22 District Campaign on January 18th vs Hidalgo at Home.
