The La Feria Varsity Golf Team Captured 1st place at the Rio Hondo Invitational which took place this past week. Multiple 2A, 3A and 4A squads took part in the Rio Hondo Invitational. The Rio Hondo Invitational marked La Feria’s second win of the year on the Girls’ side, and the first of the year for the Boys’ program.
“The Kids are starting to peak at the right time, we’re looking to get better throughout this season”, said La Feria Golf Head Coach David Briones. “Come around District Play at the end of March, we should be at our peak”.

While District Play is yet to begin, these non-district invitationals and tournaments allow teams to prepare for District Action. “They’re important because you get an early look at teams in your district, as well as other districts”, said Briones. “They allow you to see how you compare with these other teams”.

The Beauty of Non-District Tournaments and invitationals is that it is often used as a measuring stick and reference point for teams to self evaluate and see where they are before district play. “I feel like we are ahead of schedule. What helps us is that we are one of the only 4A Programs that practices year round”, said Briones. “Some teams have coaches who help with other sports, with myself only coaching golf, we have a bit of a head start there”.

With District Tournaments around the corner, Coach Briones is ready and knows what he wants to work on and knockout before District heats up. “We just want to do some fine tuning, work on our putting and chipping”, said Briones. “We are starting to work on placement as well for our team”.

The La Feria Lions Golf Team is set to continue non-district schedule before District Action kicks off in Late March.
