La Feria News
Back in September La Feria News shared about the new Public Works Facility that is being developed off of W 1st street here in La Feria, near the Dollar General.
The new facility is 36,000 square feet, able to store all the City’s equipment. Alfonso Rodriguez, Public Works Director, seems to be using all the space to the best of his ability, but the biggest reason for all this is the growth happening.
The Animal Control, Water Distribution, Waste Water Department, Garbage and Brush, “Everything that has to do with Public Works, will be here” Rodriguez says.
Rodriguez mentions that they have just ordered a new brush truck that will take about eight months to come in, but it is also in the process.
“Right now, we are just getting started, I know, but [the city] is going to get alot bigger,” Rodriguez says this is the first real Facility the Public Works Department has had, with plenty room for growth. Rodriguez says, for example, Animal Control is averaging 185 calls a month.
Another huge part of the new facility that Director Rodriguez is excited about is the breakroom. There, his workers can enjoy their meals inside, not taking breaks in vehicles or eating out so much. Instead, they’ll have their own stove and fridge, and even a TV which they can use to hold safety meeting presentations.
Rodriguez says, “I feel so proud that we can give back to them.”
Parks
Due to the weather much of the progress that was to happen last week was not able to proceed. Plans of finishing the Fitness Court at Veterans Memorial Park, and finishing both parking expansion & the Basketball court at Scott Sloan had also been delayed due to weather.
