While basketball season has been over for a few weeks now, some local athletes had another opportunity to play competitive basketball this spring.
Several athletes from La Feria Los Fresnos, Santa Rosa and Santa Maria participated in the Rio Sports Live South Texas Area Regional Showcase.
On the girls side, Los Fresnos’ Shiloh Jones, Olivia Parra and Aylene Ortega; Santa Maria’s Aleila Cantu and Santa Rosa’s Alyssa Garza all took the court in showcase play.

Jones and Garza were on the Rebels girls team, which won the overall tournament champion,
defeating Parra, Ortega, Torres and Team Lightning in the girls tournament final.
Cantu suited up for the Breeze Girls Team.
For the boys, Los Fresnos’ JJ Salazar, La Feria’s Julian Torres and Santa Maria’s, Christopher Ibarra.
Salazar and Ibarra suited up for the Rebels, who were crowned the boys overall tournament champions, defeating Torres and the Racers.
