Team USA Routs Vietnam in 2023 World Cup Opener

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup has finally kicked off and the excitement has been unmatched one week into the tournament. For one of those teams, the excitement and success continued into this year’s World Cup. Team USA, the back to back defending World Cup Champion, opened up Group E play against Vietnam.
Team USA’s offense was led by Sophia Smith who tacked in two goals for the USA. Lindsey Horan netted in one.
Defensively, the USA played Solid defense and limited what Vietnam could offensively. Team USA would hold on to defeat Vietnam 3-0, earning their first three points of group play.
USA will continue action against The Netherlands before rounding up Group E play against Portugal on August 1st.
The Current Standings in Group E have the USA in first, the Netherlands in second, then Portugal and Vietnam in third and fourth.
