Local Restaurant Offers Country Home Cooking

If you’re looking for some good grandmother-inspired country home cooking, you don’t have to look very far. Roosters Country Café which opened about 2 ½ years ago, opened their restaurant with a desire to bring quality country cooking with grandma’s recipes. Owners Rebecca and Leo Yzaguirre are new to the restaurant business but their desire to bring ingredients not usually found in other restaurants makes them a little different. For example, if you are a fan of spam, that was one thing I was surprised to see on the menu. Or if you grew up eating weenies with eggs, you’ll find it on the menu as well.
They also have huge food portions so bring your appetite. If you are looking for fast food this is not the place for you because good food takes time. They specialize in fresh food produced daily and they also have an Express Lunch from Monday through Friday for those looking for a quick bite. The restaurant recently expanded as they used to be in a much smaller place but can now accommodate more people. They also just recently obtained a license to sell alcohol, wine, and mixed drinks. In the almost 3 years that the Café has been open, they have evolved into a community within a community. All customers are treated like family at Roosters and owner Becky Yzaguirre is always on hand to greet her customer family as they come in to enjoy a homemade country meal.
She mentioned that “God gave us an opportunity and we have made the most of it and we love the country family atmosphere that is the norm here at Roosters. Here at Roosters, we serve the best homemade breakfast and lunch in the Rio Grande Valley using the freshest locally grown vegetables.”
The café serves breakfast all day and gives out Texas-sized portions on all their meals. They are located at 14362 Business 83 in Harlingen. They are open Monday-Sunday but close early on Sunday and Monday at 3 p.m. and are open late from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The La Feria News is very grateful for the chance to highlight a local restaurant and would like to acknowledge owner Rebecca Yzaguirre for all her hard work behind the scenes helping the community and those around her.
