Although he’s not originally from La Feria, Dionicio Jaramillo who was born in Brownsville moved to La Feria when he was 3 or 4 years old so his dad could be closer to his job. Dionicio attended all La Feria schools until he graduated high school back in 2019. Dionicio, or DJ as his friends call him, has had a passion for music since he was young, but it wasn’t until the Super bowl in 2022 that he committed his pursuit of music. It featured Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. These artists are what sparked a fire in him to continue to pursue music.
DJ is self-taught and shares he’s shifted into a new gear, saying “Looking back on the [older] songs there’s definitely a lot of problems with them,” DJ has definitely been able to take advantage of researching and learning more of the technical side of things. “I always try to learn the lyrics and try to rap the music I listen to, especially with Eminem. He’s got so many different flows, I always try and catch up with him.”
DJ says that things were especially hard during Covid as he was lost in everything. He had no clue as to what to do but whenever he listened to music, it would give him hope to continue his dream. He mentioned “I want to be someone people could relate to when listening to music. Making music is not just fun but it is tapped into part of my brain that was always locked. Music to me is therapy, it helps me get through my toughest days because to gives me confidence to keep going.”
The best part of music he mentioned is that you find yourself in music. You can get lost and just enjoy what you create. “You don’t have to worry about the outside world, it’s just you, your voice and the beat, You can do whatever you want with it, People will like, and people will hate it, but at the end of the day, you created something on your own and you feel accomplished.”
He says that it will take a lot of hard work but one day someone will relate to his music and that’s all that matters. He is currently working on more songs, which he’s excited to release, though he does say it’s too early to say when they will be released. His artist’s name is Mr. JaramiLLo and his latest song release is titled “It Is What It Is” which he’s excited about being that it was a collaboration with a friend of his, “ItzPacco”. Promotion wise he says he’s posting on social media and having friends and family share his songs.
