The La Feria Lions are riding atop district 16-4A DII. Picking up two wins over Grulla and Port Isabel, the Lions are looking to close out District with a bang. Due up for La Feria are the Kingsville H.M. King Brahmas. Last season, The Lions captured the win over the Brahmas in the district finale.
The first quarter saw the Lions find themselves on the back burner, trailing the Brahmas. King took the lead early on, scoring 13 while La Feria was able to put up a touchdown.
King once again took control, outscoring La Feria and limiting them to only a touchdown. The Brahmas mounted up dominance on offense throughout the first half to lead 28-14 at the half.
The Lion offense woke up in the third quarter, as La Feria was able to play evenly with King. The Brahmas were able to tack in two more touchdowns. Meanwhile, La Feria was able to keep up with King, scoring in 13 points to make it 42-27 heading into the fourth.
The Lions and Brahmas continued to battle out, however King kept control and were able to survive the Lions comeback attempt and kept them at bay. King would go on to win 49-33.
The Loss marked La Feria’s first district loss of the season. But there is still a bright side. Despite losing, the Lions still find themselves in the District Title Picture. Port Isabel, King, and La Feria all get a slice of the 16-4A DII title, having all defeating each other (Port Isabel beat King, King Beat La Feria, and La Feria bear Port Isabel).
The Lions finish the regular season with an overall record of 5-4, and a district record of 2-1. The Lions are expected to take on the Cuero Gobblers in the bi-district round of the 2024 Class 4A DII Playoffs.
