The La Feria Lions continued regular non-district action after taking part in the Annual C.E. Vail Basketball Tournament. Due up next was a tough 6A squad in La Joya.
After a 3-2 record at the Vail, the Lions were eager for a win.
The Lions and Coyotes went to work early on as both squads put up a combined 44 points with the Coyotes on top 23-21. The Lions, who are known to explode offensively at any given moment, did so in the second quarter. La Feria would spot up 16 points, nine over La Joya to take the lead 37-30.
A slow moving second half, the Lions continued to battle for the lead. Despite the best efforts by La Joya, La Feria was able to hold on to the lead.
A fourth quarter saw La Joya play more dominant on offense and defense. The Lions however, survived the onslaught of points by the Coyotes and would win 52-46.
La Feria jumped to 11-6 on the season. Now heading into the holiday break, the Lions will rest, and recover as they prepare to wind down the remainder of non-district play. The Lions will end 2024 with a rematch against Brownsville Hanna on December 28, then open up 2025 against Brownsville Veterans Memorial January 3. One week after that, the Lions will open up district against the Hidalgo Pirates.
