A New All Inclusive Glider Has Been Added to Weslaco Park

By Mike Villarreal

On March 11th, the City of Weslaco held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new accessible swing at Gibson Park. Thanks to a grant of $43,986 from the Knapp Community Care Foundation and contributions totaling $12,000 from the Weslaco Elks Lodge #2057 and private donors, an all-inclusive glider has been added to the park. Inspired by a remarkable boy named Evan, this new glider swing ensures that all children can enjoy the park regardless of their abilities. This initiative represents a significant step toward making Weslaco more accessible for everyone. The inclusive glider, a specially designed swing, offers a safe and enjoyable experience, ensuring the safety and excitement of all park visitors.

The City of Weslaco Parks and Recreation Department prepared the site to create a secure and welcoming environment for this new addition. For over a decade, Weslaco High School has been dedicated to enhancing Gibson Park. The members of the FCCLA, with their unwavering commitment, played a crucial and recognized role in promoting park accessibility and bringing this project to fruition.

This installation is more than just a new feature; it symbolizes strengthening community ties and ensures that everyone can participate in and enjoy our parks. Gibson Park is located at 310 S Border Ave, Weslaco, TX.
