March 11th City Meeting

The La Feria city meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025. 

There were six items on the consent agenda:

  1. Approval of minutes for the City Commission meeting held February 25, 2025.
  2. Public hearing regarding a request to re-zone CCAD property ID 85232 being lots 34, 35, 36 recognized as La Feria Original Townsite, Block 7, La Feria, Cameron County, Texas from R-3 Single Family Residential District to C-1 Restricted Commercial District.
  3. Consideration and possible action on a request to re-zone CCAD property ID 85232 being lots 34, 35, 36 recognized as La Feria Original Townsite, Black 7, La Feria, Cameron County, Texas from R-3 Single Family Residential  District to C-1 Restricted Commercial District.   
  4. Discuss and approve award to selected engineering/architectural/surveying service provider(s) for grant pre-application, application and project implementation for the City of La Feria’s 2025-2026 Texas Community Development Block Grant Fund Program funded and administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
  5. Consideration and possible action on Resolution 2025-06 regarding the lease of City-owned property to Our Lady of the Lake University.
  6. Closed session pursuant to Secs. 551.071 and 551.087 to receive attorney advice and discuss possible economic development incentives with Noble Texas Builders regarding the possible conveyance of the public parking lot located at the southwest corner of Oleander Street and Main Street in La Feria and associated with a possible conveyance of the Alto Theater Building and adjacent parking lot to NobleTexas Builders.

All items were discussed in order starting with public comments.

Public Comments:

A La Feria citizen voiced a concern regarding the cleanliness of specific town areas. They expressed that other residents in the vicinity are seeking information about planned actions and requested that this matter possibly be addressed at the upcoming city meeting.

The following are the items listed on the consent agenda:

  1.  Approval of minutes for the City Commission meeting held February 25, 2025.

Minutes for the City Commission meeting were approved, motion was passed.

  1.  Public hearing regarding a request to re-zone CCAD property ID 85232 being lots 34, 35, 36 recognized as La Feria Original Townsite, Block 7, La Feria, Cameron County, Texas from R-3 Single Family Residential District to C-1 Restricted Commercial District.
  1. Consideration and possible action on a request to re-zone CCAD property ID 85232 being lots 34, 35, 36 recognized as La Feria Original Townsite, Black 7, La Feria, Cameron County, Texas from R-3 Single Family Residential  District to C-1 Restricted Commercial District.   

Items numbers two and three were removed by the applicant who had submitted them. Board moved on to item number four.

  1. Discuss and approve award to selected engineering/architectural/surveying service provider(s) for grant pre-application, application, and project implementation for the City of La Feria’s 2025-2026 Texas Community Development Block Grant Fund Program funded and administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Eight applicants submitted an RFP for the “Texas CBG” grant program. Being looked into is the improvement of streets within the city utilizing the grant. Motion was passed.

  1. Consideration and possible action on Resolution 2025-06 regarding the lease of City-owned property to Our Lady of the Lake University.

This Motion was passed.

  1. Closed session pursuant to Secs. 551.071 and 551.087 to receive attorney advice and discuss possible economic development incentives with Noble Texas Builders regarding the possible conveyance of the public parking lot located at the southwest corner of Oleander Street and Main Street in La Feria and associated with a possible conveyance of the Alto Theater Building and adjacent parking lot to NobleTexas Builders.

The board went into a closed session at 6:43 PM thus concluding the meeting.
