Senior spotlight: Faith McKenzie

Sport: Softball

When did you start playing softball? I started playing softball as soon as I could walk.

What position do you usually play? I am a pitcher, but I can also play outfield.

What do you like most about softball? The thing I love most about softball is all the people you meet through the sport and definitely the competition.

Do you play any other sports? No, softball is the only sport I play.

What are you currently doing to stay active? I am running everyday and lifting weights.

Who is your favorite professional athlete? My favorite professional athlete is (softball star) Jenny Finch.

What is your favorite food? My favorite food has to be spaghetti.

What is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is “8 Seconds.”

Who is your favorite actor or actress? My favorite actor is Ian Solmerhalder.

What is your favorite book? My favorite book is definitely “A Series of Unfortunate Events” by Daniel Handler, aka, Lemony Snicket.

What is your favorite subject in school? My favorite subject in school is biology.

What subject do you wish you didn’t have to take? I wish I didn’t have to take calculus.

What is your favorite color? My favorite color is pink.

What is your favorite animal? My favorite animal is definitely dogs.

If you could live in any city in the world, where would that be? I would live in Los Angeles, California.

If you could have dinner with a famous person, past or present, who would you dine with? I would dine with Ian Solmerhalder.

What is something most people don’t know about you? Most people don’t know how hard I had to work to get where I am today.

Do you plan on going to college? Yes, I’m going to Oklahoma Panhandle State University to play softball.

What do you want to major in? I’m majoring in pre-vet/animal science.

What would you like to do in the future? In the future I would like to run my own small animal vet clinic.

Talk a little bit about what it’s been like having to endure this break. It’s been hard to endure this break because I’m usually so busy; I have so much free time now and I don’t like it. Also, I haven’t gone this long without playing a softball game and that’s really hard.

Were you surprised the UIL decided to ultimately cancel all spring sports? Yes, I was, I was devastated knowing I didn’t get to play my senior year.

What have you learned from this unprecedented experience? I’ve learned to live every moment like it’s your last and to never take anything for granted because it can be taken away from you any second.
