January is School Board Recognition Month and La Feria ISD joined other districts across the state on January 12, 2015, to thank these local leaders for their dedication and willingness to serve as advocates for our children and public schools. Students representing all of the campuses presented gifts to the Board members to show their appreciation. Our district benefits from the tireless work and countless hours contributed by these local citizens who work without pay.

La Feria ISD Strategic Plan

The La Feria Independent School District Board of Trustees was presented a timeline for the implementation of strategic planning beginning in February 2015. This year, the District is completing a five year strategic plan that was implemented in 2010.

In February, a committee of staff members, community members, parents, board members, teachers, and administrators will meet as the Strategic Planning Committee to develop the Beliefs, Mission, Objectives, and Activities for the La Feria ISD Five Year Strategic Plan. The purpose of the planning is to work together to identify the strategic intent of our school district as we continue services to develop life-long learners and good citizens.

Neighborhood Schools Approved by LFISD Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees approved the establishment of Neighborhood Schools at the January 12, 2015, regular scheduled meeting.    The design establishes three elementary schools with the grade span of prekindergarten through 4th grade at Sam Houston, David G. Sanchez, and C. E. Vail Elementary Schools.   With the assistance of a demographer, the District has established boundary lines for attendance at each of the PK-4th grade campuses.  The implementation of Neighborhood Schools will go into effect at the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.  Two issues that were addressed by the Board and administration were those of equitable distribution of students both ethnically and economically as much as feasibly possible. An information session on the changes that will take place regarding Neighborhood Schools will be held at the 2015 Annual District Parent Conference. The conference will be held at La Feria High School on Thursday, January 22, 2015, from 5:30-8:00.
